After the yacht sinking incident.. Who is billionaire Mike Lynch?

A sudden storm hit a luxury yacht off the coast of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, killing one person and leaving six missing, including British billionaire businessman Mike Lynch, the Italian Coast Guard said on Monday, August 19. Fifteen people, including a one-year-old child, were rescued, the coast guard said.

The Coast Guard said in a statement that the sailing yacht "Baygan" sank near the port of "Porticello" shortly before dawn due to bad weather conditions.

Who is Mike Lynch? Michael Richard Lynch is a British-Irish businessman, best known as the co-founder of Autonomy Corporation and founder of Invoke Capital. Additionally, Lynch became a co-founder, along with Invoke Capital, of the cybersecurity company Darktrace.

After earning his PhD and postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, Lynch applied his research to found software companies and became a major figure in Silicon Valley.

Lynch made an estimated $800 million from "Autonomy" in 2011, but has faced a number of problems, civil lawsuits and criminal charges.

In June 2008, Lynch was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and in 2011, he was named the most influential person in IT in the UK by Computer Weekly.

In 2014, Lynch was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk.

Lynch and his daughter are missing and no news has been heard from them. Lynch and his daughter Hannah were reported missing after the luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily , on August 19, 2024. His wife, Angela Baccaris, was among those rescued after the incident.
