Artist Amir Al-Masry revealed that his career in Hollywood was negatively affected by his support for the Palestinian cause, during a speech he delivered at the BAFTA ceremony in Scotland.

During press statements on the sidelines of his attendance at the El Gouna Film Festival in its sixth special session held to support the Palestinian cause, Amir revealed the scenes behind his speech in support of Palestine. He said: “Regardless of whether I missed opportunities or not, all of this comes from what I offer, and I was... I understand well that if I do anything, there is a possibility that a director I would work with will not want to work with me.”

He added: “But I am optimistic. I know that at the beginning of anything you will find people who will be against, but I have seen a terrible transformation. The first week there were about 150 thousand people in the demonstrations in support of Gaza, and last week, a million people. When people understand and watch the videos that we publish, it happens.” There is a difference. People’s opinions put pressure on foreign governments, and this will change decisions over time... These are all our responsibilities. Publishing videos makes a difference. You do not know who will watch this video or be affected by it.”

Before beginning his presentation of the “Best Actress” award, Amir Al-Masry stated: “Before I begin, I just want to say that my heart goes out to all the women, men and children who are currently suffering in Gaza. Let us hope for peace in the region and an urgent ceasefire.”

It is noteworthy that Amir Al-Masry won the “Best Actor” award at the BAFTA Awards in Scotland for his role in the movie Limbo.
