Details of the speech of Ahmed al-Sharaa, President of Syria for the transitional period

About two months after the fall of the regime in Syria, the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed al-Sharaa, chaired an expanded meeting of military and revolutionary factions.

Syrian Revolution Victory Statement

It was decided at the meeting that Sharaa would assume the presidency of Syria during the transitional period, and that the 2012 constitution would be abolished, in addition to dissolving the Arab Socialist Baath Party, the People's Assembly, the army, and the security services affiliated with the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad.

The spokesman for the Military Operations Department, Colonel Hassan Abdul Ghani, delivered a statement called “Statement Announcing the Victory of the Syrian Revolution,” in which he said, “We congratulate our great Syrian people on the victory of their blessed revolution.”

He added that it was decided, following the meeting of the military and revolutionary factions, to "authorize the President of the Republic to form an interim legislative council for the transitional period until a permanent constitution is approved."

He stressed that it was decided to "dissolve the People's Assembly formed during the time of the defunct regime and the committees emanating from it."

He also announced the "dissolution of the army of the defunct regime and the rebuilding of the army on national foundations... and the dissolution of all militias and security agencies affiliated with the defunct regime with all their branches. It was also decided to "form a new security institution to preserve the security of citizens."

He also announced the dissolution of the Arab Socialist Baath Party and the National Progressive Front parties, and the cancellation of the 2012 Constitution and exceptional laws.

Ahmed Al-Sharaa's word

After the meeting, Ahmed al-Sharaa said, “Syria’s priorities are to fill the power vacuum, maintain peace, build state institutions, and work on an economic structure.”

He added, "We were determined in the past to liberate Syria, so the duty is to be determined to build and develop it. We broke the shackles, thanks to God, and the tortured were freed. We removed the dust of humiliation and disgrace from the shoulders of the Levant, and thus the great victory was achieved. Victory is a task in itself, for the mission of the victors is heavy and their responsibility is great."

He also stressed that the common characteristic of war is destruction and bloodshed, but Syria's victory has been achieved and is full of mercy and justice, according to his expression.

The fall of the regime and the escape of Bashar al-Assad

On December 8, 2024, the Syrian opposition factions extended their control over the Syrian capital, Damascus, days after taking control of other cities, thus ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of the Assad family regime.

The next day, Al-Shara announced that Mohamed Al-Bashir had been assigned to form a government to manage the transitional phase.
