Colombian singer Shakira has cancelled a concert in Lima on Sunday after being hospitalised with an abdominal condition, the singer's official Twitter account said.

Shakira posted a statement on her Instagram and X accounts, stating that she is currently in the hospital and that doctors have informed her that her condition does not allow her to perform on stage. Shakira expressed her sadness that she would not be able to go on stage, stating, “I was very excited and emotional to meet my beloved fans in Peru.”

The Colombian singer arrived in Peru on Friday evening, where she was scheduled to perform two concerts on Sunday and Monday. Peru was the second stop on her Latin tour Las Mujeres y No Lloran, or Women Don't Cry Anymore, after two nights in Brazil last week.

Shakira was warmly received by Latin fans as crowds gathered at airports to greet her, posting on her Instagram account on Saturday: Thank you for this emotional welcome, Lima.

In a statement, Shakira said she hopes to recover soon, adding: "My plan is to perform this show as soon as possible. My team and the organizers are already working on a new date."

Shakira's tour continues across Latin America before heading to Canada and the United States in May for a series of concerts until June.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, born February 2, 1977, is a Colombian singer of Lebanese origin. She was born and raised in Barranquilla. She is known as the Queen of Latin Music and is known for her many musical talents. She made her debut on a recording produced by Sony Music Entertainment when she was 13 years old.

After the commercial failure of her first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (Danger) (1993), she rose to prominence in Spanish-speaking countries with her albums Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) (1995) and Dónde Están los Ladrones (Where Are the Thieves?) (1995).
