The emergence of two accounts on the “X” and “Telegram” platforms attributed to Hafez Bashar al-Assad , the eldest son of the ousted Syrian president, has sparked widespread controversy on social media platforms in Syria.

The two accounts published details of the night the Assad family fled on December 8, 2024, before the rebels entered the capital, Damascus.

In a short video clip, no longer than 9 seconds, that Hafez posted on Telegram from one of the streets of the Russian capital, Moscow, he confirmed that the two accounts were his, but that he did not have any other accounts.

He added that a Russian official arrived at the family's home in the Al-Maliki neighborhood after midnight, and asked President Bashar al-Assad to move to Latakia for a few days to manage the battles from there.
