According to the British itv news website, Churchill gave a half-smoked cigar to the British Consul General in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, between 1943 and 1945, Hugh Stonehower Bird, after a dinner party hosted in his honor.

The consul's family said the latter kept the cigar in a glass jar and kept it in his possession until his death in 1973 at the age of 81.

This year his relatives decided it was time to sell the memorabilia after 50 years of caring for it, and it will be put up for sale at Derbyshire-based Hansons Auctioneers.
