The early hours of Friday witnessed the delivery of the body of the former player of the Ittihad Tangier Club, Abdel Latif Akhrif, to the Moroccan authorities, who died in a tragic accident by drowning on Restinga Beach in the city of M'diq on July 6, 2024.

The incident, which shook the sports and social circles in Morocco, occurred during a recreational trip, and witnessed the presence of 5 individuals on board the boat, three of whom were rescued, while Akhrif and Salman Al-Harraq remained missing.

The body was found after weeks of searching. After intensive efforts that lasted for weeks, the body of Abdel Latif Akhrif was found last August on the coast of the Algerian city of Oran, in the Ain Trak region.

Algerian vacationers discovered the body during a jet ski trip, as the specifications matched the description of the missing player.

The Algerian authorities intervened at the time and carried out the initial procedures to identify the body, including DNA analysis.

Although the accident occurred months ago, the process of finding and recovering the body faced many administrative and technical complications, which led to a delay in completing the procedures for transferring the body to Morocco.

Delivery of the body and burial in Tangier The body was finally handed over to the Moroccan authorities on Friday at the Zouj Bghal border crossing. The body was then transferred to the morgue in Oujda, before being buried in the evening in Tangier in the presence of his family, friends and members of the sports community.
