Director Ahmed El Bendary wrote a post on his personal Facebook account: “This movie El Dashash was originally called Kaab Daer and other stars were nominated for it. I wish I had gone to any of them. Through a mutual friend, I sent it to Mohamed Saad under the name “El Hawy” and Saad was my nomination, even though I was warned by many people not to work with him, but I was determined to do it and saw it as an addition to me and to him.”

Al-Bandari added: “After three months of working on it, meeting the producers, and working on the entire visual concept, directors’ treatment, visual file, character designs, clothing, decor, directing method, editing, color pallet, and a complete storyboard, I went to Mohamed Saad with a complete concept of the film. After many phone calls and appointments, I went to his house with the writer (who I don’t blame because he has been waiting for a chance for a long time), and Saad really liked the scenario and was very excited about it, especially since it is a comedy drama, not a comedy knight like all his films. There was a big producer who agreed to the film, but with caution because of Mohamed Saad’s reputation with directors, but I reassured him and told him not to worry, he liked the film and we agreed on all the broad outlines.”

Al-Bandari continued: “Mohamed Saad’s condition was that the producer would not object to his large fee.. That was what he said, and the producer called Mohamed Saad and agreed with him on more than one appointment, and Mohamed Saad cancelled all the appointments for various reasons.. until one day Mohamed Saad called the producer and told him that he did not like the film and that the script was weak and that he wanted to set a date with him for another film, and when the producer called me and told me, I was very surprised because this was 100% the opposite of what he said.”
