He continued: “I wanted to say that there is a prevailing belief that if this regime or this president goes, the alternative will be an exclusionary terrorist jihadist group, and I was saying no, not necessarily. The alternative might be a person who spent his life in academic, artistic and cultural work, a moderate person who has no sectarian feelings and believes in democracy and has good relations with all components of the Syrian people, regardless of their intellectual and sectarian affiliations.”
