Kriti Sanon's Career, Start as a Model and Acting

Kriti Sanon (born 27 July 1990) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi and Telugu language films. She has won a National Film Award and two Filmfare Awards, and was featured in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list of 2019.

Kriti Sanon's beginnings

After Kriti Sanon completed her engineering degree from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Sanon briefly worked as a model.

She reportedly started her acting career by starring in the 2014 action films 1: Nenokkadine and Heropanti.

Kriti Sanon won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for this film and her career advanced with leading roles in the commercially successful romantic comedies Bareilly Ki Barfi and Luka Chuppi (2019), and her highest-grossing releases came with the ensemble comedies Dilwale (2015) and Housefull 4 (2019).

Kriti Sanon won the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role as a surrogate mother in the comedy-drama Mimi (2021). This success was followed by a series of commercially unsuccessful films, such as the controversial big-budget film Adipurush (2023), although the horror-comedy Bhediya (2022) was critically acclaimed.

Kriti Sanon has since had commercial successes with the 2024 comedies Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew.

On the other hand, Kriti Sanon has launched her clothing line Ms. Taken, fitness company The Tribe, skincare brand Hyphen, and her own production company Blue Butterfly Film, in addition to acting.

Kriti Sanon's Personal Life Sanon was born on 27 July 1990 in New Delhi to Geeta Sanon, a physics professor at the University of Delhi, and Rahul Sanon, a chartered accountant.[3][4] She belongs to a Punjabi Hindu family.[5] Her younger sister, Nupur Sanon, is also an actress.

Sanon attended Delhi Public School, RK Puram, and later earned a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology. Kriti Sanon briefly worked as a model before becoming an actress.

Kriti Sanon's career began with the release of the film Heropanti in 2014. Sanon made her acting debut in the 2014 Telugu psychological thriller 1: Nenokkadine, playing Mahesh Babu's love interest. The role required her to participate in action scenes shot in the sea; she said the experience made her nervous as she did not know how to swim. Reviewers for The Times of India and Sify noted her beauty and praised her acting prowess. After completing the first schedule of 1: Nenokkadine, Sanon was signed for Heropanti, a Hindi action film opposite newcomer Tiger Shroff; she split her time between the two films.

In 2015, her second Telugu film was released in the crime drama Dohchay, co-starring Naga Chaitanya, and she was then cast in Rohit Shetty's action comedy Dilwale with Varun Dhawan, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, which emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films at the time, grossing over ₹3.72 billion (approximately US$43 million) worldwide.

Anupama Chopra disliked the film and wrote that Sanon and Dhawan act as bait, aiming to attract the critical youth segment.

Kriti Sanon then worked in two of Vijaan's productions in 2019, and starred in filmmaker Lakshman Utekar's Hindi-language debut, Luka Chuppi, a satirical film about live-in relationships, which paired her with Kartik Aaryan.

Devesh Sharma of Filmfare was grateful for her comic timing, Luka Chuppi was a commercial success, grossing Rs 1.29 billion (US$15 million) worldwide.

In 2018, after appearing in the comedy Arjun Patiala, Sanon played one of the leading ladies in the reincarnation comedy Housefull 4, the fourth installment of the Housefull franchise, which reunited her with Akshay Kumar. Despite poor reviews, Housefull 4 was one of the highest-grossing films of the year, grossing over ₹2.8 billion (US$32 million).

In her last outing in 2019, Indian actress Kriti Sanon portrayed the character of Parvatibai opposite Arjun Kapoor in Ashutosh Gowariker's period drama Panipat, based on the Third Battle of Panipat, which emerged as a box office bomb.

Kriti Sanon then teamed up again with Vijan and Utekar for the comedy-drama Mimi (2021), which proved to be a major turning point in her career. A remake of the 2011 Marathi drama Mala Ai Vihaishi, she starred in the lead role of an aspiring actress who becomes a surrogate mother.

Kriti Sanon gained around 15 kg for scenes involving her character's pregnancy. The film was released digitally on Netflix and GeoCinema. Critics were generally not impressed with the film, but Sanon's performance received praise, with Mashable India calling it the best performance of her career.

Kriti Sanon has received several awards for her performance, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and the National Film Award for Best Actress (shared with Alia Bhatt for Gangubai Kathiawadi).

Kriti Sanon's first release in 2022 came with the action comedy Bachchhan Paandey, which marked her second collaboration with Akshay Kumar. An adaptation of the 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda, Sanon played a role originally portrayed by a male actor.

In 2024, Sanon starred opposite Shahid Kapoor in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, a science fiction romantic comedy between a man and a robot, where she played the role of SIFRA, a humanoid robot.

Monica Rawal Kukreja of the Hindustan Times was grateful for her robotic appearance and body language, but complained that the poor storyline doesn't really allow her to get it all out.

She next starred opposite Tabu and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the female-led heist comedy Crew, in which the trio played flight attendants. In preparation for this, they received training from former cabin crew members.

WION's Shomini Sen was grateful to Sanon for holding her own in the presence of Tabu and Kapoor Khan.

Both Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew were commercial successes, ranking among the highest-grossing Indian films of 2024.[75]

Sanon launched her own production company, Blue Butterfly Films, under which she produced Do Patti, a mystery film for Netflix co-starring Kajol and Shaheer Sheikh.

Sanon is the endorser of several brands and products including Coca-Cola, Titans Raja, Parachute and Tissot.

In the Times of India's list of 50 Most Desirable Women, she was ranked 14th in 2017, 13th in 2018, 15th in 2019 and 19th in 2020.

While Sanon has been vocal on various topics, including pay disparity in Indian cinema and the patriarchal mindset prevalent in the industry.

In 2016, Sanon launched her own clothing line, called Ms. Take.

In 2022, she co-founded a fitness startup, called The Tribe, and the following year, she launched her skincare brand, called Hyphen.
