Muawiyah resorts to a trick to get rid of Ziyad's rebellion.. Muawiyah Episode 18

Episode 18 of the Muawiyah series witnessed Ziyad ibn Abihi, the governor of Persia, declaring rebellion against the Caliphate of Muawiyah. He refused to pledge allegiance to him and withheld taxes from him, placing Muawiyah in a difficult position that prompted him to consult with his senior advisors on how to deal with this new challenge.

Muawiyah's advisors suggested resorting to military force to end Ziyad's rebellion, fearing that it would escalate and threaten the stability of the state. But instead of war, Muawiyah resorted to a clever political ploy, exploiting an ancient secret concerning Ziyad's lineage.

Revealing the secret and luring Ziad to Damascus Muawiyah remembered a conversation he had with his father, Abu Sufyan, who had told him that Ziyad was his son by a woman named Sumayyah, but that he had previously refused to acknowledge him.

Here, Muawiyah found the right opportunity to resolve the crisis peacefully. He sent a letter to Ziyad via the governor of Kufa, Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah, inviting him to Damascus with a letter in which he officially recognized his lineage to Abu Sufyan, making him a brother of Muawiyah and one of the sons of the leaders of Quraysh.

The story of the series Muawiyah The Muawiyah series deals with the events of the Great Sedition, which is the period after the martyrdom of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan, through Ali ibn Abi Talib’s assumption of power, then the martyrdom of Ali and the assumption of Hassan, then the abdication of Hassan and the assumption of Muawiyah, and the assumption of Yazid, until the martyrdom of Hussein in Karbala.
