Historical drama fans were very excited with the screening of the fourth episode of the series “Muawiyah,” which is considered one of the biggest productions of the Ramadan season of 2025.

The series sheds light on a pivotal stage in Islamic history, where political and military conflicts intertwine with the human events that shaped that era.

The death of Abd al-Rahman ibn Muawiyah: a human tragedy that shakes events The episode began with a dramatic and moving scene, where Abdul Rahman Ibn Muawiyah was involved in a tragic accident after receiving a strong kick from a horse, which led to his sudden death. This loss left a deep impression on his father, who decided to direct his full focus towards battles to compensate for his personal loss by achieving military victories.

Plague outbreak in the Levant: a health crisis that threatens armies While attempts to conquer Caesarea continued, news reached us of an outbreak of plague among the Roman soldiers in Homs. This prompted Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah to send a warning to Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab, advising him not to come for his own safety.

Omar bin Al-Khattab had previously sent a letter to Muawiyah, requesting that reinforcements be sent to Abu Ubaidah’s army, before he knew about the spread of the epidemic.

After Muawiyah arrived at Abu Ubaidah's camp, differences of opinion emerged regarding how to deal with the enemy in light of the spread of the plague. Abu Ubaidah believed that engaging in a direct battle might expose the Muslims to the risk of contracting the epidemic, while Muawiyah believed that exploiting the weakness of the Romans due to the disease would be the best solution to force them to retreat. Muawiyah adopted a smart plan, as he intensified attacks on the Roman camps, which prompted their leader to withdraw quickly without direct confrontation, thus sparing the Muslims heavy losses.

Massive losses due to the plague: a tragedy strikes the Islamic army

Despite the withdrawal of the Romans, the Muslim camp was not spared from the repercussions of the plague, as the disease began to spread among Abu Ubaidah’s soldiers, resulting in the death of a large number of fighters. Even the commander himself, Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah, did not escape the disease, and he sent a letter to Umar ibn al-Khattab informing him that the number of those who lost their lives due to the epidemic exceeded the number of martyrs in the battle.

The conquest of Caesarea and the appointment of Muawiyah as the Emir of the Levant

Despite the outbreak of the disease, Muawiyah continued to implement his military plans, discovering a clever way to penetrate the walls of Caesarea through tunnels. Using catapults and surprise attacks through tunnels, he finally succeeded in storming the city and achieving victory.

But his joy did not last long, as upon his return he was shocked by the death of his brother Yazid bin Abi Sufyan as a result of complications from the plague. This event changed the course of Muawiyah's life completely, as Omar bin Al-Khattab issued a decision appointing him as governor of Damascus and Jordan, to begin a new journey in managing the affairs of the state during one of the most critical periods in history.

The series is considered one of MBC's most prominent productions in Ramadan 2025, and is shown exclusively on MBC and Shahid.
