"People say your money is haram" Omar Kamal appeals to Al-Azhar

Popular singer Omar Kamal sparked widespread controversy after he posted a video on his social media accounts asking Al-Azhar sheikhs to help him determine the extent to which God accepts the charitable works he does.

Omar Kamal appeals to Al-Azhar Omar Kamal criticized those who doubt his intentions, saying: “Those who say that my money is haram, I use this money for charity. What have you done? When someone needs dialysis two or three times a month, who provides him with the money?”

Kamal asked Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to issue a fatwa, saying: “I want a sheikh from Al-Azhar to respond to me and tell me if I am wrong or right. If I am wrong, I will stop doing good deeds. He pointed out that he feels tired because from time to time someone tells him, ‘God is good and only accepts good deeds, and that God will not accept them from me because my money is haram.’”

Kamal sent a message to his followers saying: “I am one among millions, bearing the responsibility of my family and the people who work with me, and providing treatment to everyone who needs it. I hope that the whole society will be like Omar Kamal, and help others, so that no one will be poor.”

Omar Kamal to his critics: What did the people who criticize do? He added: "So my money is haram! What did the people who criticize do? Help people or pay for operations or house rent?"

Omar Kamal pointed out that he is keen to do charitable work in secret, and not with the aim of achieving fame or attracting attention, stressing that he does not show off these charitable works on social media.

Omar Kamal also spoke about the families he sponsors, saying: “I help whoever needs help, whoever has a falling roof, I fix it, and whoever wants to get married, I help them. I always do what I can. I bear the responsibility of 50 or 60 individuals, between my team and the people who work with me.”
