Robert De Niro will win the Palme d'Or at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival has announced that Robert De Niro will be awarded the Honorary Palme d'Or on May 13, 2025, during the opening ceremony of the 78th edition. This comes 14 years after he chaired the jury in 2011.

De Niro returns to the festival 14 years after chairing the jury in 2011. Commenting on the honor, he said, "I feel a strong connection to the Cannes Film Festival. At a time when the world is increasingly divided, the festival remains a place that unites us as filmmakers, storytellers, and audiences. It's like coming home."
