In a tragic and unexpected incident, Indian billionaire Sanjay Kapoor, chairman of Sona Comstar, a company specializing in manufacturing auto parts, passed away.

Sudden death of Kapoor

Kapoor suffered a fatal allergic reaction while participating in a polo match in England, according to the British newspaper, The Mirror.

Kapoor, 53, accidentally swallowed a bee during the match, which is believed to have stung him inside the mouth, causing severe swelling of the airway, rapid suffocation and a sharp drop in blood pressure, followed by cardiac arrest.

Initial medical reports indicated that the death was caused by "anaphylactic shock," a medical emergency that occurs in some people as a result of a severe immune reaction to insect stings or certain foods, and can be fatal if rapid intervention is not provided.

British authorities have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death. Doctors have also warned of the dangers of insect stings, particularly in the mouth or throat, as they can cause fatal reactions, particularly in those with undiagnosed allergies.

Shock in the sports community

The incident shocked the sporting and social circles, as Kapoor was a prominent figure in the business and polo worlds, known for his close ties to the British royal family and for having appeared at previous events alongside Prince William.

Hours before his death, Kapoor had posted a touching tweet expressing his solidarity with the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. He wrote, "Broken news... My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. May they find strength in this difficult time."

Kapoor served as chairman of Sona Comstar, an automotive components company with a market capitalization of approximately $4 billion. He took over after his father's death in 2015 and led its expansion into major markets such as China, Mexico, Serbia, and the United States.

Sanjay Kapoor is known to Indian cinema fans as the ex-husband of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor.

Kapoor is survived by his current wife, Priya Sachdev, whom he married in 2017, and his children from his two previous marriages. His family is currently working to repatriate his body from Britain to India for his funeral.
