World's oldest person with progeria dies

Sammy Basso, a 28-year-old Italian man who suffered from a rare premature aging disease known worldwide as Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, has died.

Basso is the longest-living of the injured.

Basu is the longest-lived person with the rare genetic disease, with an average life expectancy of only about 13 years.

Basso died after feeling unwell while eating with friends at a restaurant in Italy.

Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister, mourned Basso via the "X" platform, saying that he was an exceptional example of courage, faith and positive spirit. "His courage in the face of the disease and his constant smile despite the challenges will remain a source of inspiration for future generations."

Diagnosis and establishment of disease association

Basso was diagnosed with the disease when he was two years old, and in 2005 he and his parents founded the Italian Association of People with the Disease.

Sami became famous after the National Geographic Channel aired a documentary about a trip he took with his parents and best friends in the United States.

In the association's obituary for him, it was written on Instagram: "Today our light and guide left us. Thank you Sami for making us a part of this wonderful life."
